Flowing Patterns

Duration: 11’31”

This 3D animation is a continuation of the 2018 project ‘Shaping the Passage’, in which the visualized dots of the animations were ‘open data’, thus enabling different interpretations.

In the Flowing Patterns project water runs in a virtual, invisible enclosure.

The idea behind it remains the same: currents in all different forms can be affected and transformed by certain actions and influences, comparable to the effect of a stone in a river or the change of course of a comet by the impact of a satellite.

By playing with the location of invisible elements in the enclosure of the 3D animations, the water runs along or against it and a certain pattern emerges. The choice of colours and the animated movement are inspired by the woodcuts of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849).
